When I was just a little girl I can remember having the best birthdays ever. One in particular birthday I can recall a surprise birthday that my mom had planned for me and my sister. Our birthday's were one year one month and 4 days apart. We were always very close. We did everything together. Our birthday parties were pretty simple. Mom made a cake, and sometimes we had those birthday hats with the elastic string that everyone hated wearing. Mostly our birthdays consisted of friends and family, gifts, and cake.
Now a days it's more about having the perfect theme for a birthday, and how your birthday party can be bigger and better than the last one you attended. The pressures on for moms to show each other up. The more money you spend the better the party. Parents are bringing the petting zoo to there homes, renting Big Bird and Elmo, magicians, clowns, etc. What happened to the simple birthday parties? That were just as fun if not more fun. And dare I say less stress full.
I have felt the pressures of having the perfect 3 tier birthday cake, or booking the most spectacular venue. I think I will just sit back and watch all the other moms try and out do each other. While I just sit back and watch, I wonder what there faces would look like if I pulled out a homemade cake with gel icing and sprinkles, OH and those little birthday cake candies!!
