Social Networking

The top 15 social media sites are as follows in order, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google+, tumblr, Instagram, Flickr, VK, Myspace, Tagged, Meetup, Ask.fm, Meet me:), Classmates, and the list goes on and on..                                                        


We are more and more distracted with what is going on in other peoples lives than our own.  We compare our lives to our friends and families as well as people we don't even know.  The saying, the grass is not always greener on the other side of the road is a true statement.  When we allow our time and energy to be focused on the lives of others and the pretty picture there painting it can affect our outlook on life causing us to become ungrateful for the things we are blessed with. 

I'm not totally against social media sites, I think they possess both positive and negative effects on individuals and society.  However, we tend to do everything obsessively, and it can consume us at times.  I think we are all guilty of this at one point or another.  The goal is to keep a balance and your feet on the ground.  The problem with this is that children who are exposed to the usage of social media sites are not as grounded as an experienced person may be. 

Children want to follow their peers.  That's why it is very important to stick to your own beliefs and thoughts.  Setting boundaries and letting your children know that following the crowd isn't always right.  It's hard to walk alone, or to speak up for what you believe in especially if the rest of the group goes a different direction.  Keep reaching for the stars even if the rest of the world are not.

On another note, social networking can  also be a very positive thing.  It provides ways of communication between long distance family and friends.  Friends and family can connect by looking at each others pictures and keeping up with what's going on in each others lives when normally we wouldn't. 

It is evolving rapidly.  There is social networking applications in the business world.  Business are finding out that by using these social networks they are building a bigger and better name for there brand.  Once thought of as just a fun activity, social networking is becoming a useful and important tool is today’s world.  It is constantly evolving, but I am sure it will be one of the things that our generation is remembered for.
